The New York State Commission on Local Government Efficiency and Competitiveness provides a list of local government consolidation initiatives broken down by county in New York State. The commission, created in 2007 by former Governor Eliot Spitzer, was formulated to analyze local government and when applicable make recommendations for consolidation.
