Poll: Long Islanders Split on Gov't Consolidation

Long Islanders are "the most contentious" when it comes to consolidating government services in New York State, according to a new study released Tuesday.
"These are difficult economic times. If consolidation reduces cost, improves government efficiency, and supports economic growth without sacrificing local identity, then New Yorkers want consolidation considered," says Lee M. Miringoff, Director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the poll. "If not, it’s back to the drawing board for restructuring local government."
