New Yorkers: Cut my taxes, but keep my village

ALBANY — Consolidate local governments? Sure, New Yorkers say, if it saves money but doesn't cut services or erode local identity, a Marist College poll found.
A Marist poll of 4,500 New Yorkers funded by the Dyson Foundation is the first statewide to dig deeply into how residents view government consolidation, an initiative by Gov. Andrew Cuomo but one that has led to bitter battles in communities.
