Folks in region want less government: poll

More than half surveyed favor consolidating municipal services

A majority of residents in the mid-Hudson favor consolidating government — most of the time — according to a survey released Tuesday.
The survey, sponsored by the philanthropic Dyson Foundation and conducted by the Marist Poll, found that 52 percent of the 500 people surveyed in the region favored consolidation as long as it promised improved governmental efficiency and tax savings. The data are part of a statewide survey that found 54 percent of residents outside New York City favor consolidation of local government. That held true in the mid-Hudson portion of the survey.
